Q: Describe a typical day in your role/department?
A typical day in my role involves a great deal of teamwork and external engagement. Given we are a small team in Asia, we work closely together on the planning and execution of the workshops and events of the programme. As things are returning to in-person settings, we are now busy working on face to face workshops and networking events planning for this year. My role working on the FT Women in Business Asia Forum also involves frequent communication with programme members and external speakers. I also conduct regular meetings with our clients to catch up on their membership usage and keep them updated on the upcoming Forum events. I am also involved in communicating with speakers for the Forum events and coordinating the virtual sessions we run. I enjoy the fact that my role is very varied and no two days are ever the same.
Q. What project have you been most proud of? Or are most excited about?
One of the most fulfilling aspects of my role supporting the FT Board Director Programme is witnessing the graduation of our scholars from the Diploma programme. The journey of completing a 6-month executive training programme is not an easy one, and it brings me and my team great satisfaction and pride to see our scholars earn their credentials, develop their knowledge and skills, and build invaluable connections (and friendships) through the programme. It is incredibly rewarding to witness the future successes of the scholars, which is also a testament to the value of the programme.
Q. FT's values are Ambition, Inclusion, Integrity, Curiosity, Trust and Subscriber Focused. In relation to your role at the FT which of these values speaks to you most and why?
In my opinion, my role at the FT most resonates with the value of “inclusion” by helping to bring diversity and equality to the business world. For example, for the FT Women in Business Asia Forum, we organise events on topics in relation to women’s wellbeing and career development to help them accelerate in their career and achieve their professional goals. We aim to empower women in our community with practical tips and insights from our specialist speakers and networking opportunities to bring these individuals together. When I see our Forum is making these positive impacts to the women in business, it reminds me of the FT’s value in building a diverse and inclusive business community.
Q: What has surprised you most about working at the FT?
Since joining the FT, I have been pleasantly surprised to discover that it is so much more than just a newspaper. In fact, the FT offers a diverse range of businesses and products beyond its core subscription services. As a member of the team responsible for the FT Board Director Programme and FT Forums, I have had the opportunity to work on events and executive training programs that cater to different training and educational needs of individuals and businesses. There are certainly a much broader range of services and solutions than I originally thought there would be to be discovered in other business units of the FT.
