Why did you join the FT? Tell me a bit about your journey to get here.

I joined FT 13 years ago. I have been part of the customer care team since the beginning and am currently a team leader in Tokyo. The work is very meaningful to me because I realise that "when we interact with our customers, we are representing the FT, the respected publication" and I am very aware of the responsibility, but I also find it rewarding. I am currently working on building the team with new members and participating in the development discussions for the migration from the Archimedes to the new system.

How has the FT helped you develop or progress in your role or in your career?

The FT is truly a people-oriented company. I experienced it through my personal circumstances that changed drastically 10 years ago, when I lost my husband in an accident. During that time, I received tremendous support from the FT. I had similar experiences as well during the Covid-19 pandemic, when I remarried. The FT’s hybrid working model allows me to split my time in Japan and work remotely in France.

These challenging periods in my personal life had a significant impact on my professional life. With the support of the FT ,including compliance checks for legal right to work, tax implications, and more, along with the coordination with the Japan team, I successfully managed to balance the demands of both my personal and professional life. Here are some key actions that took place: 1) Ensuring remote work aligned with local business hours, 2) scheduling remote working during the local off-peak season, 3) prioritising team members leave requests when working in Japan, 4) lastly, avoiding long consecutive holidays to ensure support and guidance for my relatively new team in Japan.

I am very grateful for the compassion and flexibility that the FT provides that allows me to continue developing my career and please allow me to take this opportunity to thank everyone who supports me in my current situation and for everyone's understanding.
