Tell us a bit about yourself and what you do at the FT.
My career’s been a bit of a colorful ride. I started out as an Executive Assistant earlier in my career,  then somehow found myself in beverage sales (I quickly realised sales wasn’t for me). The company ended up getting acquired and a bunch of us were let go, including me, which honestly felt like a blessing in disguise. I knew I wanted to get back into office management, and with some construction experience under my belt too, facilities just made sense! When I saw the Financial Times was hiring for a Facilities Coordinator, I was so excited, my dad always read the FT growing up, so getting that call to interview was really cool.

My role is to make sure the New York office operations are running smoothly by managing maintenance, repairs, office supplies, space planning, and vendor services. I help keep the office safe, organised, and functional for all employees. I also make sure all employees have card access to the other U.S. offices as well.

You’ve held different roles in the past, what do you like about Facilities in particular? (How have those experiences influenced how you work at the FT?)
I have experience as an office manager for a construction company, so I learned a lot there about construction and have prior experience working with various building vendors, which comes in handy when it comes to my current role here at the FT. I honestly like helping people it brings me fulfilment.

What’s your favourite part of the FT NY office?
I really like the knowledge hub area. We have a lot of our ERG events that happen there, where everyone gets together and exchanges ideas. And the Nespresso machine, of course!

What key lessons have you learned that helped shape your professional growth?
That your career doesn’t have to follow a straight line, mine hasn’t. Trying different roles, such as being an executive assistant and then jumping into beverage sales, helped me figure out what I actually enjoy (and what I don’t). Every job teaches you something new about yourself. I’ve grown the most by staying open, adaptable, and not being afraid to start fresh when I need to.

What advice would you give to employees who are just starting their careers at FT?
Don’t be afraid to ask questions. People here at the FT are always willing to help. There’s no need to pretend you know everything on day one. We are constantly growing, no matter where we are in our careers.

Anything else about your FT experience you’d like to share, something we haven't asked you?
One thing I appreciate the most while working at the FT is that no matter what department you’re in, people are supportive of one another and actually care about making things work well.
