What was your first role at FT, and what motivated you to join?

I initially joined FT in 2016 as a QA Engineer contractor. My journey to FT started when the company I worked for in India was acquired by Pearson, which also owned FT at that time. I was determined to join FT due to its impeccable brand reputation and industry-leading technology practices.

Can you share some insights into your career progression at FT, including any moves or transitions you've made?

My career at FT has been filled with exciting journeys. Initially, I relocated from Chennai to Bangalore in India when I joined in 2016. This move exposed me to a different state within India, with its unique culture, language, and cuisine. This was a whole new world for me to explore.

In 2018, I made a significant career shift from QA to Developer, which turned out to be one of the best decisions I have made. When FT announced the opening of its Sofia office in 2019, I seized the opportunity to become a Permanent Staff member based in Bulgaria. The transition was made seamless thanks to the fantastic people in Bulgaria and my supportive team in Sofia.

Around 2022, I took yet another leap, this time transitioning from Engineering to Product within the same Data Platform Team, ultimately becoming the Product Manager.

What motivated your transition from Engineering to Product Management?

I was drawn to Product Management because it offered a unique perspective on problem-solving and creativity. The challenges in Product Management intrigued me, and I believed I could contribute more in this role. Unlike Engineering, where results are immediately measurable, Product Management requires a more data-driven approach to justify investments, be it time or money. Drawing from my experience as a part-time game developer, I found these concepts and decision-making processes fascinating and played a major role for me to take this opportunity.

How has FT supported your career development?

FT has always encouraged its employees to pursue their aspirations and has been incredibly supportive of career advancement. When I transitioned from Engineering to Product, my colleagues provided valuable mentorship, and my manager ensured I had access to all the necessary resources to excel in my new role.

What FT project are you most excited to work on now?

Currently, FT Strategies piques my interest, and I'd be thrilled to work on it if the opportunity for a secondment or a mini-project arises.
