Brooke Masters has been appointed US investment and industry editor at the Financial Times. Based at the FT’s regional headquarters in New York, Masters will lead news coverage of American non-bank finance and will write a biweekly column on global business for the FT’s award-winning Opinion section. 

Masters returns to New York after 14 years at the FT’s global headquarters in London, where she held several senior roles, including chief business commentator, opinion and analysis editor and companies editor. Having joined the FT in 2006, her breadth of coverage over the last decade and a half has spanned from financial services and regulation to politics, criminal justice and education.

Masters’ new role follows several senior appointments the FT has made in the US over the last year. At the FT’s Washington DC bureau, Felicia Schwartz was appointed US foreign affairs correspondent; Colby Smith was appointed US economics editor and Stefania Palma was appointed US legal and enforcement correspondent. 

The FT also expanded its footprint with the reopening of its LA bureau and appointment of veteran journalist Chris Grimes as LA bureau chief. Further south, Nikkei and the FT opened their first joint bureau in Houston and appointed Justin Jacobs as Houston correspondent.
