30 January 2018: Citigroup took first place at a charity quiz held last night in support of Alzheimer’s Research UK, the FT’s charity partner for 2017/18.

Hosted by FT deputy editor, Roula Khalaf, 12 teams pitted their wits against one another in a general knowledge quiz, including a smartphone game round which contributes to dementia research. All proceeds went to Alzheimer’s Research UK, a charity at the forefront of the fight to raise awareness and find a breakthrough for better treatments.

A number of FT writers joined the quiz night, including Martin Wolf, chief economics commentator; Peter Spiegel, news editor; Pilita Clark, associate editor and business columnist; Brooke Masters, companies editor; Ben Hall, world news editor; and Sue Matthias, senior editor for special projects.

For more than a decade, the FT seasonal appeal has raised awareness of a charity and its work during the holiday season. Since 2006, the FT has raised over £17m for charity partners. The latest coverage for Alzheimer’s Research UK combined the best of the FT’s science and international reporting along with personal stories from FT contributors and prominent voices in the fight against dementia, including David Cameron and Bill Gates.

The FT’s final event in support of Alzheimer’s Research UK is the MBA charity quiz on March 20.
