21 August 2018: The Financial Times (FT) is partnering with the 92nd Street Y in New York City for a series of wide-ranging conversations about business, money, and politics. The partnership will engage the patrons of the 92nd Street Y and provide a platform for global leaders in business, government, media, and academia to be interviewed by senior editors from the FT.
“We are excited to join forces with the 92nd Street Y for this exclusive series of conversations on current affairs,” said Ryann Gastwirth, Global Director of Partnerships and Growth for the FT. “Through smart programming we will bring the combined editorial strength and influence of our two brands to the stage in front of an astute global audience.”
“The Financial Times is known globally for the quality of its journalism and brand, making them a fitting co-presenter for us,” said Susan Engel, Executive Producer of 92Y Talks. “The calibre of experts that they will be bringing to the series was an immediate draw and we look forward to this new collaboration.”
The series will launch on October 17 with a conversation between FT US managing editor Gillian Tett, former chairman of the Federal Reserve, Alan Greenspan, and political editor of The Economist, Adrian Wooldridge. The discussion will explore the idea of the economy as a living organism, the history of American innovation and the present state of America’s productivity growth, all themes central to Greenspan and Wooldridge’s book, Capitalism in America.
On November 28, Tett will sit down with HBO chairman and CEO Richard Plepler to discuss the future of television. In the wake of the historic merger of AT&T and Time Warner, the wave of new content and massive changes in storytelling and production, television is experiencing rapid change and growth, making this an exceptionally timely conversation.
On December 5, Tett will interview former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and Ambassador Wendy Sherman. Albright and Sherman worked together during the Clinton administration, and will share their wealth of diplomatic experience and offer crucial insights on today’s international order in a wide-ranging conversation about the future of diplomacy. Albright has written a new book, Fascism: A Warning, and Sherman, lead negotiator of the Iran nuclear deal is the author of Not for the Faint of Heart: Lessons in Courage, Power, and Persistence.
Additional conversations will be announced at a later date.
