The Financial Times has won Video Journalism of the Year at the Wincott Awards for its documentary film SoftBank: Piecing the Puzzle Together. 

The documentary explains why the Japanese multinational Softbank is like a jigsaw puzzle, and explores the role of the enigmatic founder and chief executive Masayoshi Son. It was produced, directed and edited by Daniel Garrahan, Veronica Kan-Dapaah and Tom Griggs with reporting by Leo Lewis, Arash Massoudi and Kana Inagaki. 

Commenting on the documentary, the judges said, “A crisply impressive in depth report on Softbank, the Japanese global investment giant headed by Masayoshi Son who has turned the venture capital industry upside down with his huge appetite for risk via the ground-breaking Softbank Vision Fund.”

The Wincott Foundation’s annual presentation of awards give recognition for outstanding achievement in economic and financial journalism to journalists and media organisations aimed primarily at UK audiences. These awards cover print, broadcast and on-line journalism.
