26 August 2020: The Financial Times won two awards yesterday at the Society of Publishers in Asia (SOPA) Awards for Editorial Excellence in Hong Kong

Asia editor Jamil Anderlini won the award for Editorial Excellence in Opinion Writing for his coverage of the Hong Kong pro-democracy demonstrations. The judges commented, “This is a perfect example of the kind of opinionated journalism that constructively contributes to political and social debate.”

Deputy Beijing bureau chief Yuan Yang and news assistant Nian Liu also won an honourable mention for Excellence in Explanatory Reporting for their story, China’s slowing pains.  

The SOPA Awards celebrate editorial excellence in both traditional and new media across Asia and cover a broad range of categories reflecting the region’s diverse geo-political environment and vibrant editorial scene.
