27 April 2018: The Overseas Press Club (OPC) of America has honoured Gideon Rachman, Chief Foreign Affairs Commentator for the Financial Times, with the 2017 prize for best commentary at its annual awards ceremony in New York.
Gideon Rachman was recognised for a compilation of his commentaries, which included Trump, Erdogan and How Democracies Die, Why Macron Matters to the Whole World, Soros Hatred is a Global Sickness and Trump, Xi and A Dark Year for Democracy.
The judges said, “In an outstanding field of deeply reported and intelligent entries, Gideon Rachman’s range of subjects, reported insight and refreshing opinions was the most impressive. He was particularly forceful on the rising tide of nationalism facing Europe and the U.S.”
