The Financial Times has launched a US edition of FT Edit, an app that offers readers eight hand-picked stories every weekday chosen to surprise and inform a new group of readers. This follows the launch of the UK edition in early 2022.
FT Edit offers a selection of engaging FT stories that give a deeper understanding of today's world, including in-depth reads, reporting and analysis on world news, business, science, culture and more. The purpose of FT Edit is to provide an alternative to endless scrolling, allowing readers time to digest eight important stories selected for them each day.
Caryn Wilson has been appointed US editor of FT Edit and will curate the app daily for an American audience. In this newly created role, she is responsible for the editorial development of the app, working with the visual editor, and data and product teams to create a storytelling experience that works for new readers.
“As a journalist, it’s a fascinating challenge,” Wilson said. “How do you curate eight stories for Americans who most likely haven’t read the FT before? I’m intrigued to see which stories our new American audience engages with and how this evolves over time. It’s a privilege to help introduce a new generation of readers to the FT.”
FT research shows that there is an audience looking for a curated sample of FT journalism - people who appreciate the range and depth of its varied reporting, but who simply don't have the time to enjoy all that is on offer. FT Edit will test the appeal of a more accessible FT subscription with this adjacent audience.
The app is available for download now in the iOS App Store. FT Edit is free for the first month, then $0.99 for six months, and $4.99 thereafter.
