September 5, 2017: Today, the Financial Times is launching a new collection of articles and videos titled “50 Ideas to Change the World,” a collaborative, crowd-sourced look at the forces shaping our future.

The series, supported by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, asks members of the public to submit concepts and technologies that have the potential to revolutionize areas like healthcare and education, as well as mitigate challenges posed by population growth, environmental change, and resource scarcity.

Projects submitted should be at a pilot or working prototype stage. FT editors will select the 50 ideas with the most potential, and commission stories around them for publication, starting in December  and running through the spring of 2018.

"Spotting an important innovation is difficult,” says FT science editor Clive Cookson. “Many of the technologies that we take for granted today originated in the unlikeliest of places, often by accident, and took a long time to become truly useful . . . we welcome ideas  that seem surprising at first but potentially fruitful on further consideration. ”
