18 September 2018: The FT’s Uber Game has won the 2018 Online Journalism Award (OJA) for Excellence and Innovation in Visual Digital Storytelling.

The interactive news game lets users experience what it is like to try to make a living in the gig economy. It accompanies the article ‘Uber: The uncomfortable view from the driving seat’, in which the FT’s Leslie Hook interviewed real drivers, delving into the realities of the career.

FT’s Robin Kwong (@RobinKwong) managed the project together with a team of art directors and developers: Rebecca Turner (@BeckyTTurner), Nicolai Knoll (@knicolai), David Blood (@davidcblood), Ændrew Rininsland (@aendrew), Callum Locke (@callumlocke) and Joanna Kao (@joannaskao). Emma Shore designed the social campaign.

The Uber Game has recently won a Gold Medal at the 2018 Serious Play Awards, an Award for Excellence for experimental design at the Society of News Design Awards, and a Bronze Award for innovative format at the 26th Malofiej International Infographics Awards.
