1 December - The Financial Times today announced the publication of FT Weekend Magazine's annual Women of the Year special. The list celebrates achievements from 25 women across cultures, industries and artistries, spotlighting forms of influence, power and courage.

This year’s edition honours women across three categories - Leaders, Heroes and Creators - whose groundbreaking accomplishments, boundary-pushing careers and resolute activism inspire the world. To recognise these women, the FT commissions entries by other women to celebrate the expanse of diversity and breadth of the selections. This year's contributors include; Christiane Amanpour, Beth Mead, Jamie Lee Curtis, Marina Silva, Nicola Sturgeon, Yomi Adegoke, and Abigail Disney.

Commenting on the list, FT editor Roula Khalaf said: "We put together this list, which is unranked, in collaboration with FT journalists from dozens of international bureaux, former women of the year and our readers. It is a celebration, of course, but also a way of interrogating the ways in which power and influence are changing."

FT Weekend Magazine deputy editor Esther Bintliff added: “This list is reflective of the world we live in, but it's also aspirational in directing attention to women we think are doing worthy work in their fields. The list looks forward as much as it chronicles the present.”

The Leaders category includes Oleksandra Matviichuk, a 39-year-old lawyer and human rights activist who has doggedly gathered evidence of war crimes in Ukraine through the Center for Civil Liberties, which she leads. Also featured in the Leaders category are US Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, CitiGroup CEO Jane Fraser, Prime Ministers Sanna Marin of Finland and Mia Mottley of Barbados.

Athlete and icon Serena Williams is featured in the Heroes category, along with Aviva CEO Amanda Blanc, England Women’s Football Head Coach Sarina Wiegman, conservationist Paula Kahumbu and whistleblower Rina Gonoi. Also in the Heroes category, The Women of Iran, who have taken a tragedy and turned it into an unprecedented fight for basic human rights, dignity, personal bodily autonomy and freedom.

In the Creators category, actor Michelle Yeoh, headliner Billie Eilish and novelist, playwright and human rights activist Tsitsi Dangarembga demonstrate the power of creation and expression. Also in the Creator category, Domee Shi, Anne Imhof and Meghan Markle

The full list will be published in a special edition of FT Weekend Magazine on Saturday 3 December and the online article will be free to read from 5am on Sunday 4 December.

The Women of the Year edition was edited by Esther Bintliff, Griselda Murray Brown and Cherish Rufus, and designed by Shannon Gibson, with photography from Emma Bowkett.
