Today marks the tenth anniversary of FTChinese.com (“FTChinese”), the Financial Times’ Chinese language publication. To celebrate this significant milestone, FTChinese is hosting a cocktail party tonight at Rosewood Beijing for staff, clients, business partners, and influential figures in global business and finance.

FTChinese was launched August 31, 2005, with a small team in Beijing. Today, the business has staff in Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong and London, providing news and information to China’s top business executives and decision makers.

FTChinese boasts nearly 2.4m registered users, a ten per cent increase on last year. The news site also has 4.4m followers across its key social media channels, including Sina WeiboTencent Microblog, WeChat and more.

FTChinese has achieved exceptional success over the past ten years and continues to produce world-class editorial. FTChinese has been honoured eight times by the Society of Publishers in Asia (SOPA) Awards for Editorial Excellence. Most recently, in June, Wu Wei and Xiao Shu received the Award for Excellence in Opinion Writing and the category’s honourable mention, respectively.

FTChinese has a strong track record in covering breaking news, vital issues and featuring exclusive interviews. Two highlights include former editor-in-chief Lifen Zhang’s 2009 interview with then-Chinese Premier, Wen Jiabao, about the international financial crisis; and, in 2008, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang contributed an article, ‘China will stay the course on sustainable growth’ – a topic that remains at the top of news agendas.

FTChinese has built upon its original offering to include new products and services for a growing global audience. This year alone, the company launched its first Kindle e-book, a Chinese version of Lunch with the FT, to critical acclaim; and introduced FTIntelligence, a paid-for research service, providing industry and market data and insights.

Angela Mackay, FT’s managing director and publisher for Asia Pacific, said, “FTChinese is a vital part of the FT’s offering in Asia, and a trailblazer in its own right. We are very proud of our international team, whose dedication to the brand have helped build FTChinese into one of China’s leading sources of business and financial news and analysis.”

Tracy Zhang, president of FTChinese, said, “We are delighted to be celebrating the tenth anniversary of FTChinese. Although this is a time to reflect, we are always focused on the future. We operate in an increasingly crowded media landscape, where the need to grow and adapt is stronger than ever. We look forward to meeting these challenges and plan to tackle them head on.”

Wang Feng, editor-in-chief for FTChinese, said, “FTChinese offers readers unrivalled global perspectives combined with outstanding local expertise. We continue to stand out for the quality, authority and accuracy of our journalism. Our readers can always count on FTChinese to be their trusted guide through the most consequential stories of the day.”

FTChinese also co-organised the inaugural Zhijiang Summit in Ningbo in June, 2015, in association with Zhejiang Department of Commerce, which gathered some of China’s top government officials, business leaders and scholars. This is just one of the 50 events FTChinese has organised in its ten year history.
