Luxury lifestyle magazine How To Spend It and FT Weekend Magazine were both recognised on Monday night at the British Society of Magazine Editor Awards (BSME). How To Spend It editor Gillian De Bono was awarded Innovation / Brand Building Initiative of the Year, and Sue Matthias, former FT Weekend Magazine Editor, was crowned Editors’ Editor of the Year.

The panel of judges, led by Dickon Ross, presented the prize for best Innovation / Brand-Building Initiative to Gillian De Bono for producing How To Give It, a year-long project resulting in a one-off issue, which was entirely dedicated to raising money for charity.

Gillian commented: “Of all our awards, this one is particularly special to me because it recognises How To Spend It magazine as an innovator and pays tribute to my team for 12 months of enormously challenging work. Most importantly, the initiative raised £362,000 for Save The Children.”

The BSME committee said Sue Matthias was “their greatest inspiration in the past year”, after she picked up the Editors’ Editor award. Matthias, who was the editor of FT Weekend Magazine for five years, tweeted on Monday night:

The BSME awards recognise journalistic excellence in magazine editing, “the only UK awards which are run by magazine editors for magazine editors”. For more information about the awards and a list of the 2015 winners click here.
