The Financial Times has appointed Soumaya Keynes as an economics podcast host and columnist. Keynes is currently Britain economics editor at The Economist and will join the FT in the summer.

In her column, Keynes will write about the new ideas, old arguments and current debates over the economy and how they are shaping our world. She will also host a new weekly economics podcast that will launch in 2024.

FT editor Roula Khalaf said: "I am delighted that Soumaya has decided to join the FT as a columnist and podcast host. She is an outstanding commentator and presenter, and will provide an authoritative new voice in the FT's world-class line-up of economics writers."

Soumaya Keynes said: “I'm absolutely delighted to be joining the stellar economics team at the FT. As a long-time reader, it’s a dream come true, and I look forward to contributing to the hottest economic debates both in print and audio.”

Between 2017-21, Soumaya Keynes was also the co-host of the Trade Talks podcast. Before joining The Economist, she was a research economist at the Institute for Fiscal Studies, where she worked on UK state pensions and the public finances, and a policy adviser at HM Treasury focused on banking and credit.
